Recorded throughout 2012 and released on new year's eve, Earth Rebel is the third full length album released independently by Ancestree in as many years. Marking a leap in quality of sound and songwriting, the album features a horn section lead by Alia Fintz, keyboards by David Goodman and the 3-part harmonies that have come to define the Ancestree-Sound. With explosive drumming from jazz-metal veteran Jack Hanley and Latin percussion by Mexico City native Alex Olvera, the tracks come alive with a feeling that can only be captured by a band recording live; one day, one room. one take.
Tracks vary from roots reggae (Jah Warriors, Ayiti, Run Around), to ska (Reggae Riot), dancehall (Peter Tosh), and even a take on rock-steady (So Nice). The themes of the album are struggle, rebellion and freedom.
